The young widow qualified as a teacher and taught religious studies at the Jewish School, supplementing the family income by tutoring in Biblical Hebrew and other subjects. Among her students were Thekla, Erika and Liselotte Salzburg, the daughters of Siegmund Salzburg, a wealthy Jewish physician, and his wife Elsa (née Glückmann). Liselotte was later to marry Fred Stein.
