131 Acquisition and Conversion of the Villa at Mozartstrasse 3 Ground plans for the redesign of the villa at Mozartstrasse 3 for its fifth owner, Dr Siegmund Salzburg. Plans submit- ted for planning permis- sion, dated 30 June 1910. The top of the plan points east. The new space opened up by the renovation works made it possible to build extensions to the ground floor, which on the elevation drawings from 1910 resemble retrospectively added ‘hooped skirts’. These structural additions emphasized the build- ing’s horizontal dimensions, highlighting the cuboid form and design of a building that had pre- viously been characterized by vertical lines. Be- sides adapting the tower to create space for the new kitchen, the architect designed steps leading up to the north side of the villa, covered by a generously proportioned roof. Furthermore, both the ‘gentle- men’s’ and ‘ladies’ room were enlarged on their southern sides. A new veranda was added to the eastern section of the building in front of the ‘gen- tlemen’s room’, and a previously outdoor veranda in front of the dining room on the western side of the villa was enclosed. The extension work im- proved the proportions of the study and dining room, both in terms of area and volume, by balanc- ing out their rather elongated, rectangular form into something approaching a regular square shape.
