FOCUS KEY OBJECTS OF HEALTH EDUCATION The Transparent Humans and Animals were deployed many times worldwide as key ob- jects in health exhibitions in the context of pub- lic hygiene and health education of the 20th century. As modern exhibition media, they served the purpose of conveying normatively charged body images that could be linked with socio-political conceptions of order. Both under National Socialism and in the GDR, the Transparent Humans were consequently staged as symbol figures of the “New Human” that was to be created. The historical photo- graphs in the collection enabled a coherent analysis of the various exhibition presentations. ‹ Fig. 101 Transparent Woman in the in-house exhibition of the DHMD, 1955–1959, inv. no. 2021/114.2
